Is Huggy Wuggy / Mob Entertainment suitable for children?

Huggy Wuggy is part of a wider thing called Poppy Playtime, which is a PC game under the survival horror genre. There are lots of imitation and fan made videos featuring Huggy Wuggy. Some of these might be scary.

Overall Rating

If you watch gameplay from the official game - Poppy Playtime, which is a survival horror game with jump scares, then it’s definitely going to scare some younger kids. It would scare adults to be honest. However, that's not going to stop some kids from watching it. Your 6 - 9 year old will have heard / watched bits of it, but in reality it's only really suitable for 13+ and adults. It’s not annoying.

Suitability Rating

It took me a while to figure out what the deal was with Huggy Wuggy. There’s plenty of Roblox and Minecraft videos featuring him, but there was no official channel for him. After a bit of digging, it turns out Huggy Wuggy is a character from a game called Poppy Playtime which is developed by a company called Mob Entertainment. The game comes in 3 chapters and the first is free to play. You can find it on Steam. There is also an official Roblox game - Poppy Playtime: Forever.

There also happens to be loads of fan made content, a lot of which is Minecraft and Roblox based. Some of these videos might be scary while others might not. I’m going to review the official game and the gameplay videos that people make from it.

It’s scary! You play a character walking through an abandoned toy factory. Huggy Wuggy is one of the characters that will chase you through dark corridors and air vents and you have to escape him. Without a doubt Huggy Wuggy is not suitable for younger kids.

My daughter doesn’t like him and refuses to watch anything. Sadly she watched some of the videos around a friend's house. With that in mind, if you’ve got younger kids, 6 - 9 years old, then there’s a good chance they know who Huggy Wuggy is. Some won’t be bothered, but others will. I’d say with confidence, it's for older kids, 13+ and adults.

Annoyance Rating

Some of the fan made content (Minecraft and Roblox videos) can be annoying just because it's not the real thing or it’s a poor attempt to recreate him. The official stuff however isn’t annoying but the YouTubers who play the game and react to it definitely can be. Because there’s so much content floating about it’s hard to give it a definitive rating, but overall I'd say Huggy Wuggy isn’t annoying.

There’s plenty of Huggy Wuggy (and other characters) merchandise on sale from the official site poppy playtime dot com. They sell plushies, clothes and accessories such as backpacks, blankets and mouse mats.
